I can feel it, baby
The first inkling that I end and you begin
Picking up senses and their accompanying awe
Your hands push against the chest
You used to require for sleep
You lunge for dirt
Heart from heart and skin from skin
The sinuous route from up to down
Until I relent and release you
To the earth
We both feel it, baby
The invisible thread
The one that causes my eyes to open
Moments before your cry
Does it ever go away?
I linger in mid night
Back and forth on weary feet
Your head finally heavy
Our breaths tangled
Holding something I didn’t have to chase
Sometimes it seems
We’ll spend the rest of time
Trying to get back
To this
I love this poem, Erin. Came here to say, I come back and read it from time to time. <3
